Different Jobs That Use Scuba Diving

The first thing you think of when you think if a scuba diver is someone who is on vacation, in a warm, sunny location and looking at fish. While this is probably true for a lot of people, there is much more to scuba diving. There are many occupations that require scuba divers and people who have the knowledge to scuba dive. There are lots of opportunities for people who are trained and live near bodies of water to become a scuba diving professional.

When someone goes missing in a lake or a river, who is called out first? The police divers. These scuba divers have the gruesome task of trying to locate the body so that the family can know what happened to them. Divers are called in after boating accidents, floods, car accidents in rivers and any other time there is a person missing near the water.

Scuba divers are also used to investigate things. The most obvious would be for marine biologists to investigate the animals they work with and see underwater. Scuba divers can study them from a distance and try to capture them in their natural habitat so we can learn more about them. Scuba divers can also be investigative when it comes to looking at ship wrecks, boating accidents where the boats have sunk. They can explain what happened and write up a report if there is law enforcement officials involved.

Several types of jobs also call for scuba divers to repair things. The most obvious would be for people who need to repair ships and boats sitting in marinas. The scuba divers can head under water and see where there is a problem in the hull and offer a fix or instruct someone else to fix the problem. There are lot of scuba divers who are welders within the military. They can fix their ships or the submarines as they sit submerged in the water.

Another occupation with scuba divers that you might not realize involves pipes. The pipes can be for the local water supply company or even the utility company. Water lines, electrical lines and natural gas lines all have to run underground at some point, and when there is a problem with those pipes and lines, there has to be someone who is trained to go under the water and at first diagnose the problem and then fix the problem.

Scuba divers can weld underwater or they can make repairs to the pipes in many ways. Divers might also need to have electric skills or know how to handle explosive or flammable materials or whatever else could be contained in a certain pipe. No matter what type of occupation a scuba diver does, they need to have the knowledge and training to be a scuba diver first or they wouldn’t be able to succeed in the other.
